Homeless Training by Ryan Dowd
The Homeless Training suite features over 20 instructional videos led by Ryan Dowd, an experienced leader in working with people experiencing homelessness. The content is grounded in more than two decades of hands-on experience and supported by scientific research and case studies.
In the core training series, participants will learn how to effectively and compassionately work with individuals experiencing homelessness. Topics include preventing conflict, nonverbal and verbal communication tools, managing emotions, and more.

Free to all BC public libraries through October 2026.

Monthly Live Training
In addition to the online, self-paced training series, BC public library staff also have access to live monthly training webinars from Ryan Dowd’s Homeless Training program. A new topic related to working with people experiencing homelessness is explored each month.

The Core Training is 3.5 hours long total. The Supplemental Trainings are approximately 1 hour each. All training sessions are broken into multiple videos from 2-18 minutes each.
It is recommended to complete the Homeless De-escalation Training Series first before starting other training videos.
After registering, participants will receive instructions on how to create a free account on Niche Academy to access the training. Once you have created and logged into your account, you will have access to training as long as InterLINK maintains its partnership with the Homeless Training organization.
