Interlibrary Loans & Delivery

InterLINK helps libraries stay connected by funding Illume, the BC provincial interlibrary loan system, and by supporting a long-standing delivery service through our own truck and commercial carriers.

Benefits of Resource Sharing

Resource sharing among InterLINK members ensures broader access to materials, giving patrons the ability to borrow from a large, interconnected network of libraries.

Whether searching for a unique title or visiting another community, users can enjoy service across libraries, making collections more accessible and convenient for everyone without straining collections budgets.

Member libraries save money by avoiding duplication, which can instead be accessed through interlibrary loans or in-person borrowing at another library. Libraries that share their collections may receive compensation funds for the additional services they provide.

Resource Sharing FAQs

Browse answers to common questions about InterLINK’s resource sharing services.

With interlibrary loans, you can borrow books from libraries outside your local system. In these cases, you make a request through your local library, and the book is shipped to that library for you to pick up.  In BC, this service is coordinated remotely through a platform called Illume. InterLINK funds access to Illume for member libraries and supports the delivery of books between them.

Non-resident borrowing is when you visit a library that isn’t your home branch and borrow items in person. Unlike interlibrary loans, this doesn’t involve a remote request—it’s just regular borrowing, but at a different location in the InterLINK library network.

All of this might sound a bit technical, but don’t worry. Feel free to ask for more information at your local library and remember that InterLINK libraries work together to share resources, so you have access to more materials, no matter where you are.

There are 18 InterLINK member libraries. Refer to our member libraries page to find a library near you.

InterLINK does not ship books to libraries that are not our members.
You may be able to borrow from other BC libraries as a BC OneCard member, or by doing a non-InterLINK Interlibrary Loan. Please check directly with your library to see what is  possible and meets your needs.
