Canadian Public Libraries Fighting Mis- and Disinformation
InterLINK is launching its newly developed Misinformation Staff Training. Registration opens today for sessions in early May. This work is a strategic goal that aims to support all library staff to feel more confident when confronted with misinformation in their workplace.
Eligibility: Staff working in any public library role at an InterLINK library.
Dates (participants attend one session only):
Wednesday, May 6, 2-5 pm
Friday, May 8, 9 am-12 pm
Monday, May 11, 10 am-1 pm
Tuesday, May 12, 1-4 pm

After participating in this virtual workshop, participants will have a clear understanding of:
– Misinformation basics: what it is and how it spreads
– Cognitive factors that increase the likeliness people will believe or spread misinformation
– Evidence-based strategies for responding to misinformation and limiting its spread
– Common library scenarios and how to handle them
– How library values like intellectual freedom apply to patron interactions involving misinformation
